Two Days, 20,000 Attendees, One Room Block
The Central Zone Invitational runs January 23 and 24, 2027 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, in Exhibit Hall A through K. The venue lists a forecast attendance of 20,000. Capitol Sports Center and Circle City Volleyball host the event for age divisions 11s through 18s.
January 23 is a Saturday. January 24 is a Sunday. The venue calendar for January 2027 lists eight events, and these two dates carry one. The weekend of January 29 to 31 carries three, including the Circle of Stars Gymnastics Invitational.
Downtown Indianapolis holds 7,100 hotel rooms, and 4,700 of them connect to the convention center by skywalk. A forecast of 20,000 works out to about 2.8 attendees for every downtown room and about 4.3 for every skywalk-connected room.
The Housing Arrangement Behind the Block
The organiser page states the housing arrangement in one line. It reads TAP, the Tournament Advantage Program. TAP is a room-block program run by Integrated Tournament Solutions. Where accommodations are part of the tournament plan, the program carries a room-block requirement, the arrangement the industry calls stay-to-play.
A family that stays in the block books a room type at a published price. Each hotel signs a contracted group rate with the program, and that rate holds across the block dates. Three levers sit at the edges of the block.
The Block Today: 107 Properties, Three With Inventory
The event housing page lists 107 properties at rates from $115 a night, plus a $12.00 booking fee per reservation. The gate read the page on 22 September 2026 and found 104 of the 107 flagged sold out.
Three properties still show inventory. Signia by Hilton Indianapolis Convention Center sits 0.2 miles out. It shows six rooms left in a Club Signia Suite at $583 a night, and the other room types are gone. Conrad Hilton Downtown Indianapolis sits 0.4 miles away and shows 30 King rooms at $312, with two-night and three-night minimums. Best Western Plus North Indianapolis at the Pyramids, 11.6 miles out, shows rooms not released yet.
The Published Spread Inside Half a Mile
Twenty-seven properties on the list sit within half a mile of the venue. Their published rates span $139 to $583 a night. The $139 end of that span is the Holiday Inn Indianapolis Downtown at 0.3 miles, listed at $139 for a King and $149 for a Queen/Queen. Across the full block the rate span opens at $115, at the Hilton Garden Inn Northwest Indianapolis 10.1 miles out.
An extra night on January 22 can be added when a family books.
Lever One: The Commuter Exemption at 60 Miles
The event housing page carries two numbers at the top: five rooms and 60 miles. The 60 miles is the commuter distance posted for this event. The program states that a commuter exemption is automatic upon proof of distance to the venue.
A family inside 60 miles of the convention center can leave the block with proof of address in hand. That exemption is self-service. Military and loyalty-point exemptions run through verification. A full-team exemption needs advance written approval from the Tournament Director. An individual exemption leaves the team room requirement in place.
Lever Two: The 48-Hour Rate Guarantee
The program places a rate guarantee on every block. The hotel must keep the contracted group rate for the room types in its block at or below the lowest publicly available rate for comparable rooms on the peak event dates.
Membership and eligibility rates sit outside that comparison. The excluded group covers AAA, AARP, corporate, government, military and crew rates, along with prepaid nonrefundable rates and non-comparable room types.
When a lower public rate turns up, Integrated Tournament Solutions notifies the hotel. The contract then gives the hotel 48 hours to remove the lower rate or to cut the rate for the entire group block to match it. Every family in the block gets the cut.
One limit belongs beside that. The program states that the event does not control hotel pricing or availability. It also states that the event cannot guarantee the hotel response beyond notifying it and enforcing the contract terms.
Lever Three: The Fee and the Number to Hold
The booking fee is $12 per reservation and non-refundable, whatever the length of stay. It sits on top of the room rate, so it belongs inside the ceiling a family sets.
Hold $139 a night for a downtown stay inside half a mile as the walk-away number, before the fee. Two nights at that rate come to $278, and the booking fee brings the total to $290. The same calculation at the block opening rate of $115 gives $230 for two nights before the fee.
When a family is asked to pay above the published rate for a comparable room type, the contract clause is the tool to raise with the housing team.
The printed terms on the listing are worth reading before booking. Changes or cancellations inside 10 days of arrival may carry a penalty of one night room and tax. A no-show carries one night plus tax, and the rest of the reservation is cancelled. Early departure may also carry a penalty. Every guest must be 21 or older to check in, and check-in runs from 4:00 PM.
The Name-Your-Price Route
A family inside the 60-mile line can name a price in place of taking a published one. On hotelhaggle a traveler submits a nightly number. Hotels answer with an acceptance, a counter or a decline in one dashboard. Submitting is free, the platform adds no commission to the agreed rate, and no obligation attaches to an offer. The platform states hotels respond within 24 to 72 hours.
The exemption, the guarantee and the published rate decide what a family pays on January 23 and 24. Check the distance against the 60-mile line. Hold the rate published for the room type you need. Pass any discrepancy to the housing team inside the 48-hour window.
