The venue event page lists a 6:00 a.m. opening for the South Parking Lot, a 6:45 a.m. opening for the ticket office and a 7:00 a.m. opening for the East Gate. Competition begins at 7:00 a.m. The same page states that nearly 100 high school marching bands travel to Indianapolis for the Grand National Championship.
The Colts host the Miami Dolphins at the same stadium on Sunday 15 November at 1:00 p.m. EST, the day after the championship closes.
What the Housing Bureau Fixes
The 2026 Grand National Championships Housing Timeline states that all competing and exhibition bands and their booster groups using hotel accommodations for Grand Nationals are required to make those reservations through the Bands of America Housing Bureau. The same document states that bands violating the policy will not be permitted to perform and forfeit all enrollment fees. A booster group is defined as a group of parents or boosters who consolidate and make collective hotel sleeping room arrangements.
One date governs the band side. Groups submitting a Housing Preference Form on or before May 15 receive priority placement. The final rooming list is due 45 days prior to the arrival date. The bureau names June 15 for a status communication and August 1 as its goal for completed housing assignments.
The Date That Matters for an Individual Booking
The timeline names the release point. After September 1st, remaining unused or unneeded contracted rooms become available for individual bookings. The release happens at the discretion of the Housing Bureau Administrator. The document directs an interested guest to housing@musicforall.org. That window is open now, 50 days ahead of the 12 November arrival.
The timeline answers the individual question directly. No individuals attending any Bands of America event are required to utilize the Housing Bureau. The bureau describes its released inventory as potentially better priced with limited availability, and it names downtown as the constrained area.

The Cancellation Terms

The same list answers a later weekend. For 19 to 21 November it returns 20 properties, all inside 0.82 miles. Those run $249 to $699 with a median of $348. Nine properties appear in both windows. Across those nine the median nightly rate for the Grand Nationals weekend reads $95 higher.

How to Time the Booking
The bureau rule opens released inventory after September 1. The cancellation boundary for a 12 November arrival falls on September 28. An individual request inside that window sits after the release and ahead of the block deadline.
