New York hotel rates average $336 a night, measured across 11.1 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026 by Engine, a corporate travel platform. Engine calls these par rates: the cheapest publicly available price at the moment of each search. Booked and negotiated prices sit outside the measure.

The month of stay moves that number from $196 in January to $541 in December. That is a 64 percent spread, one of the wider gaps among the 50 United States markets Engine tracks. Engine observed each rate 10 to 180 days before check-in, and Engine tells planners the month of stay is the bigger lever.

The city runs near full. New York City hotel occupancy was 84.1 percent in 2025, at an average daily rate of $333.71 across 124,000 average monthly active rooms, per the Office of the New York State Comptroller's July 2026 report.

Below, ten New York properties listed in hotelhaggle's own New York directory, each with the one lever that gives a planner room. The order runs from the month where the calendar gives the planner the most room to the month where it gives the least, following Engine's month-by-month table.

A January arrival

January averages $196 a night, 42 percent below the city average. The lever: move the arrival into January when the trip carries any flex. Point the bid at 1 Hotel Central Park, 1414 6th Avenue, listed in hotelhaggle's New York directory.

A February arrival

February averages $202, 40 percent below the average. The lever: hold February as the alternate window before you commit, because two consecutive low months give a planner a fallback. Point the bid at 11 Howard, 11 Howard Street.

A July stay

July averages $268, 20 percent below the average. The lever: schedule a summer stay in July. A September stay carries a heavier rate on the same room. Point the bid at 33 Hotel, New York City, Seaport, 33 Peck Slip.

An August stay

August averages $273, 19 percent below the average. The lever: bid August and keep a September week as the fallback. Point the bid at 414 Hotel, 414 W 46th St.

A March stay

March averages $277, 18 percent below the average. The lever: use March when the trip has to land in spring, and name a price. Point the bid at 42 Hotel, 428 South 5th Street.

A June stay

June averages $327, three percent below the average. The lever: a month near the average draws nothing from the calendar, so the whole move comes from the bid. Point the bid at 6 Columbus, 308 West 58th Street.

An April stay

April averages $335, level with the city average. The lever: length of stay. Engine reports that moving a multi-night group stay out of a peak month changes the total, so a longer block in an average-rate month still moves it. Point the bid at AC Hotel, 260 West 40th Street.

A November stay

November averages $352, five percent above the average. The lever: split the stay, so the nights that can move land in a cheaper month, and send the rest to a bid. Point the bid at Aliz Hotel, 310 West 40th Street.

A May stay

May averages $372, 11 percent above the average, in a city running 84.1 percent occupancy. The lever: submit with a walk-away position. hotelhaggle attaches no obligation to a submission, so a decline costs a planner nothing. Point the bid at Ace Hotel Brooklyn, 252 Schermerhorn Street.

An October stay

October averages $429, 28 percent above the average. The lever: treat October as the month where calendar flexibility is worth the most, and move the dates before you move the price. Point the bid at Archer Hotel New York, West 38th Street, 10018.

Where fixed dates weaken the planner

Two months carry the heaviest move against a planner. September averages $458, 36 percent above the city average, and December averages $541, 61 percent above it. Engine reads the September surge as UN General Assembly week plus the start of fall conference season, and the December peak as holiday demand. Engine labels the pattern measured and the explanation its own read.

With dates fixed inside those windows, the bid carries the whole negotiation. With flexible dates, the calendar carries it.

How to open a bid

hotelhaggle sends one named price to 50 or more hotels. Hotels accept, counter or decline, and the site states that typical responses arrive within 24 to 72 hours. Submitting is free. There is no obligation to book, and the planner pays the hotel directly at the agreed price. The site states that users typically save 15 to 40 percent off published rates, a claim the site makes about its own service.

The channel cost a hotel already carries explains a counter-offer. Online travel agency commissions run 15 to 25 percent per booking, according to Mews, a hotel technology vendor, in a post published 24 April 2026. That commission gives a hotel a reason to answer a lower offer. Open a bid at hotelhaggle.org.
