The date, the theme and the count
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Festivities Committee runs its 50th annual parade on Monday 18 January 2027. The theme reads Highlighting The Dream. Participant registration closes 9 November 2026.
The committee's about page puts the parade at tens of thousands of spectators and more than 2 million viewers through televised and digital media, and calls it the largest MLK parade in the nation. Both figures are the organiser's own. Ask the committee to confirm the 2027 count in writing before it enters a rate conversation.
Where the parade runs
The route is NW 54th Street in Liberty City. The committee formed in 1977 and describes the street as one Dr. King travelled while visiting Miami. The participant list runs marching bands from Miami-Dade and Broward schools, youth dance teams and majorettes, civic leaders and elected officials, local businesses, veterans, first responders, the Universoul Circus and community resource booths.
Ask the hotel for the drive time to NW 54th Street at 8:00 a.m. on a parade Monday, and ask which rooms face the route. The committee says staging details reach registered participants ahead of parade day, so street closures arrive late.
Lever one: the deadline is the demand signal
Participant registration closes 9 November 2026. Every band, school, ministry, dance team, business, fraternity, sorority and civic group on that route files its room request after that date. Ask the hotel what block availability looks like for the night of Sunday 17 January and the night of Monday 18 January, and ask for both nights on one line.
Sunday is the arrival night for a delegation that marches on Monday morning. Ask whether the holiday rate starts on the Sunday or on the Monday. Get that answer in writing before the block is signed.
The committee's site also promotes an NCEL Symposium in Miami Beach on Saturday 16 January 2027. That date adds a third night for a delegation attending both.
Lever two: the six-vehicle cap
The committee limits each agency to 6 approved vehicles and requires every vehicle to be decorated to the theme. Undecorated commercial vehicles are refused entry.
Ask whether the property holds bus or oversized-vehicle parking for six vehicles, what that parking costs per night, and whether the charge sits inside the group rate. Ask for the answer as a dollar figure per vehicle per night.
Lever three: no housing page exists
Every page that carries the event publishes no hotel name, no lodging partner, no room block, no nightly rate and no accommodation cut-off date. The home page, Parade, Parade Registration, Vendors and About Us all come up empty on those terms. The vendors page closes applications on 9 November 2026 and places approved vendors along the route and at MLK Memorial Park.
That absence leaves the whole number with the hotel. Ask the property to put its rate, its release date and its attrition in one document, and treat that document as the only published number in the deal.
Contract terms that move on a dated civic event
Attrition. Ask for the clause as a room count and as a percentage of the block.
Resort fee. Ask for the fee, the parking charge and the tax on one line beside the room rate, then compare the total against the rate the hotel first quoted.
Cut-off date. Ask for the date the block releases. Ask that it fall after 9 November 2026, so the group can count registered participants before it commits rooms.
Cancellation. Ask what the group owes when it releases a subset of rooms rather than the whole block, and ask for that figure separately from the full-block penalty.
Questions that return no number
A request for an MLK rate returns nothing, because no rate of any kind is published on the committee site. A request for a discount on the strength of the parade's reach returns a figure only if the property recognises the event. Ask for the hotel's group terms without a label attached, then put the committee's dated figures beside them.
The line-up, the staging and the route belong to the committee. The rate, the release date and the fees belong to the hotel. Keep those two lists apart in the message.
What to send, in order
Send the date first: Monday 18 January 2027, 50th annual, registration closing 9 November 2026. Send the route: NW 54th Street, Liberty City. Then ask for the Sunday and Monday nights as one block, the rate on each side of the holiday switch, the attrition clause, the resort fee and parking, and the release date. Attach the committee's written confirmation of the 2027 date.
The committee contact is committee@mlkparadeandfestivities.org. The site names the 50th annual parade and the theme, and prints no room rate.
