A Date Published Four Months Ahead
The Indiana High School Athletic Association lists the girls swimming and diving state finals for Feb. 12-13 on its 2026-27 sports calendar. The same block on the IHSAA site carries Oct. 26 as the first practice date, Nov. 9 as the first contest date, Feb. 4 and Feb. 6 as sectionals, and Feb. 9 as diving regionals. Read against a 2026 calendar, Feb. 12 and Feb. 13, 2027 fall on a Friday and a Saturday.
A date published four months ahead is the first negotiation lever. A team manager who knows the window can submit a request while the block is still open and while the hotel is still building its own forecast.
Downtown Indianapolis Rooms: 9,400
Visit Indy publishes more than 9,400 hotel rooms downtown, with 5,200 of them connected to the Indiana Convention Center. The Indiana Convention Center publishes its own figure of 7,100 downtown rooms and 4,700 connected rooms. Each figure comes from its own publisher.
Deep inventory is the second lever. A destination holding thousands of rooms across dozens of properties gives a buyer more than one place to send an offer, and gives each property a reason to treat the request as a competitive field.
The Venue Behind The Dates
The IHSAA page does not carry the venue or a housing programme. The IU Natatorium events calendar lists 12-13 IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving Championships inside its February 2027 block.
The Natatorium describes itself as the largest indoor aquatic facility in the United States, with a seating capacity of 4,700 and a $20 million renovation. The same About page states that over 100,000 competitive swimmers and fans pass through the building each year.
February 2027 at the venue holds four bookings across four consecutive weekends. The Jaguar Aquatics Winter Invitational runs Feb. 5-7, the girls finals run Feb. 12-13, the Horizon League championships run Feb. 17-20, and the boys finals run Feb. 26-27. The venue calendar stamps that list as subject to change, updated 9/2/2026. A dense month is the counter-pressure on the same inventory a buyer is bidding into.
Friday And Saturday Carry The Peak
hotelhaggle publishes a 20 to 30 percent discount on shoulder nights, Sunday through Thursday. The finals sit on a Friday and a Saturday. Those nights give a hotel little reason to move on price, so the leverage a manager holds has to come from the lead time, the room count and the number of properties in the field.
What To Ask For Beyond The Room Rate
hotelhaggle publishes six negotiation levers for group buyers. The first is competition, and one request goes to 50 or more hotels in the destination. The second is date flexibility, which the finals calendar does not offer. The third is room count. Most hotels quote group rates from 10 rooms per night, and some quote from five.
The fourth lever is the one that matters when the rate holds. The platform tells buyers to ask for concessions ahead of a further rate cut: complimentary breakfast, waived resort fees, free parking, suite upgrades, and flexible cancellation terms. Each one moves cost out of the room line without changing the nightly figure.
Response times are published at 24 to 72 hours, with some hotels replying the same day. The request is free to submit. The platform states that it adds no commission to the price and that the buyer pays the hotel directly. Offers arrive side by side in one dashboard.
Parking Sits Outside The Rate
Parking at the Natatorium is controlled by IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services, and the venue routes visitors and meet attendees to that office for current rates. The venue sells a $35 monthly permit at the Pro Shop desk inside the building, with the desk on the lower level and the stairs on the east side near the parking garage entrance.
A free parking concession carries a known value here. The campus holds the parking, so the ask belongs in the offer comparison rather than in a side conversation at check-in.
The Power Of The Walk-Away
The platform publishes no obligation as a term. A buyer can accept an offer, answer a counter-offer, or walk away with no charge. That is the sixth lever, and it is the one a manager keeps in reserve.
No source on this row publishes a room rate for Feb. 12-13, 2027. The platform publishes its own savings band of 15 to 40 percent below published rates, across a network of 103,857 hotels in 46 states. Name-your-price bookings are restricted under state travel law in Florida, Hawaii, Iowa and Washington. Indiana is not one of the four.
