Three Levers on One December Week
AGU26 runs Monday 7 December to Friday 11 December 2026 at Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street, San Francisco. Registration and housing opened on 25 August. Three published numbers decide what an attendee pays for the week: the price of the membership that opens the reduced rate, the early-rate close in the first week of November, and the housing cut-off on 19 November.
Lever One: 75 Dollars Against the Member Row
AGU membership costs $75 for a calendar year. The student rate is $30. The 2026 membership form lists Regular Member at $75, Student at $30 and Associate at $75.
Membership runs on a calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. AGU states that applications received after 6 November are effective through the following year.
AGU requires the first author on every abstract to hold AGU membership or affiliated-society membership. The membership year turns on 6 November, one day after the early-rate close that the meeting page publishes.
Lever Two: The Early-Rate Close Carries Two Readings
AGU's annual-meeting page prints the deadline in its own dates block: 5 November, the last day to register at the early rate. AGU's education section prints 6 November for the same deadline. Confirm which date binds the order at the registration desk.
Under either reading the close falls in the first week of November, 21 days from 15 October.
Lever Three: 44 Properties and One Cut-Off
AGU states the housing rule on its newsroom release: book hotels at conference rates during registration, or return to the booking page to book housing after registration. Bookings close 19 November, and AGU adds that the block may fill before that date. That is a Thursday, 35 days from 15 October and 14 days after the rate close.
AGU publishes the block as a numbered hotel map. The key runs 1 to 44, from the Axiom Hotel and the Beacon Grand to The Westin St. Francis and Yotel San Francisco.
Maritz is the vendor AGU names as the official registration and housing vendor for AGU26. Its exhibitor housing guide adds one portal rule: housing can be selected through the portal until 19 November 2026.
Two of the 44 properties double as meeting venues. Sessions also run at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, 780 Mission Street, and at InterContinental San Francisco, 888 Howard Street.
What No Page Publishes
No per-night rate sits on a page an attendee can open without signing in. The meeting page carries no figure, and the housing search returns its rates inside the reservation flow. AGU's exhibitor housing guide states that a reservation without a card guarantee is released back into inventory within one hour.
The published scale runs wide. The meeting page reads "25,000+ attendees from 100+ countries." The newsroom release reads "More than 24,000 attendees will present research."
Where a Buyer Holds a Second Line
The block is one channel. hotelhaggle sends one offer to 50 or more hotels at once, and each property accepts, counters or declines. Responses arrive in 24 to 72 hours. Submission is free, the rate is not marked up, and no outcome has to be accepted. The network covers 46 states and lists 103,857 hotels, California among them. hotelhaggle's terms exclude Florida, Hawaii, Iowa and Washington from its service area.
The network's own guides carry two terms that fit this shape of stay. Most hotels offer group rates at 10 or more rooms per night, and some discount from as few as five rooms. Shoulder nights, Sunday through Thursday, run 20 to 30 percent cheaper than peak nights.
The meeting dates give four nights between Monday 7 December and Friday 11 December. A five-night stay takes a Sunday 6 December arrival. Sunday is a shoulder night.
The Order the Calendar Runs In
5 November closes the early rate on the meeting page. 6 November closes the membership year. 19 November closes the block. 6 December is the Sunday arrival for five nights. 7 December opens the meeting. Three of those five dates fall inside the next 36 days.
