DC Black College Expo 2027: ask for a 3 PM checkout

One Saturday, four and a half hours

The 24th Annual DC/Maryland Black College Expo runs Saturday, March 13, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Allen Y. Lew Place NW. The doors run 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Eventbrite publishes the ticket band at $9.10 to $12.29 across the aggregate offer on the listing. The listing carries NO REFUNDS in capitals and gives the reason: the cost of hosting the event, with the money raised going to student scholarships.

The room question sits inside one day. A family travelling in holds one night. The hour the room releases is the term worth negotiating.

The three Saturdays around this one

National College Resources Foundation runs three consecutive expo Saturdays in March. Atlanta runs March 6. DC/Maryland runs March 13. Chicago runs March 20. The DC stop is the middle one.

A Charlotte stop falls on Thursday, March 4, which puts 16 days between the first date and the last.

The spacing sets two separate hotel questions. A family attending one stop books one night. A recruiter or an exhibitor working the run books a weekly pattern across four cities inside three weeks. Both groups negotiate against the March 13 date.

The checkout hour

The programme ends at 2:30 PM. A 3:00 PM checkout holds the room to the close of the event day. A noon checkout releases it six hours earlier.

Ask for 3:00 PM as a clock time. Ask for the fee beside it as a figure. A property that charges for the hour gives the buyer a number to set against a second night. A property that grants it at no charge returns the afternoon.

The expo publishes no room block

The organiser publishes no housing page. The Eventbrite listing, the foundation's home page and its events list carry no hotel, lodging, accommodation or room-block line. There is no block to join and no group rate to quote.

A buyer negotiates with a property directly and on open terms. The two levers are the Friday night and the checkout hour, and both travel in one message.

The published rate to measure an offer against

Two public figures price the ceiling. The GSA FY2027 per diem sets March lodging in Washington at $295. The District hotel surtax runs 15.95 percent and holds through September 30, 2027. Those figures put one night at $342.05 and two nights at $684.11.

A quote at or under $342.05 a night including tax lands at the federal ceiling for the month. A quote above it carries its own justification, and the buyer can ask for the working in writing.

The ticket line is small beside that figure. Two tickets at the top of the Eventbrite band total $24.58, so one night at the ceiling runs about 14 times the pair.

The Friday request

Ask for the Friday night at the rate quoted for the Saturday. Put the request in writing and take the answer in writing. A property that matches both nights gives the buyer one rate for the stay and one cancellation term to check.

Send the rate match and the 3:00 PM checkout in the same message. The two requests cost the property one reply.

Hold the request until the week of arrival

The checkout hour is granted at the desk that assigns the room for that night. A request timed to the arrival week reaches that desk with the reservation in front of it.

The booking itself goes in early with no checkout condition attached. The rate match and the checkout hour travel in the arrival week. That sequence holds the room at the quoted rate and leaves the two requests open.

What to confirm in writing

Four lines on the confirmation. The two nights at the quoted rate. The 3:00 PM checkout with its fee stated as a figure. The cancellation term measured in days before arrival, checked against the March 13 date. The parking charge, if the property sells one.

The venue holds no public parking at the address. Events DC states that over 3,000 spaces sit within a three-block radius and that parking rules are heavily enforced in the surrounding residential blocks. A property inside the walk removes the parking line and the enforcement risk with it.

The Metro entrance sits inside the building at the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station on the Green and Yellow lines. A property on that line answers the transit question for a family arriving by rail.

The date that cannot move

The expo ticket carries no refund. The date is fixed at March 13, 2027. A room booked on a non-refundable rate takes the same position as the ticket, so the buyer keeps flexibility by taking the cancellation term in writing before the rate is confirmed.

One message, four questions, one reply. That reply settles the weekend cost for a family and sets the pattern a recruiter repeats across Charlotte, Atlanta, DC and Chicago.
