Thirteen hotels and one published ladder
The Florida Music Education Association conference runs January 13 to 16, 2027 at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St. The city calendar lists about 250 clinic sessions and concerts and more than 10,000 attendees. FMEA publishes room rates for thirteen Tampa properties, and the ladder runs from 173 to 257 dollars a night.
The FMEA hotels page states the structure plainly: "FMEA Conference contracts individually with several Tampa hotels to provide our attendees with the best rates possible. We do not have a housing bureau service, you must reserve rooms using the individual hotel links below."
Where each rung sits
At 173 dollars: Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk, 111 W Fortune St. At 179: Holiday Inn Tampa Airport Westshore, 700 N Westshore Blvd. At 199: Four Points by Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport Westshore, 4400 W Cypress St. At 211: Residence Inn by Marriott Tampa Downtown, 101 E Tyler St. At 229: Courtyard by Marriott Tampa Downtown, 102 E Cass St. At 234: Marriott Tampa Water Street, 505 Water St. At 236: Home2 Suites Tampa Downtown Channel District, 1155 E Kennedy Blvd. At 239: Hampton Inn Tampa Downtown Channel District, the same address. At 249: Hotel Tampa Riverwalk, 200 N Ashley Dr. At 254: Embassy Suites Downtown Convention Center, 513 S Florida Ave, and Embassy Suites Tampa Airport Westshore, 555 N Westshore Blvd. At 255: Hilton Tampa Downtown, 211 N Tampa St. At 257: Westin Tampa Waterside, 725 S Harbor Island Blvd.
Three of the thirteen carry a Westshore or airport address. FMEA states that it provides no transportation and that not all hotels sit within walking distance.
The double rate equals the single rate
All thirteen properties publish one figure for single and double occupancy. Two guests sharing a room pay the posted rate once, which puts the cheapest rung at 86.50 dollars a person and the top rung at 128.50.
Three properties price a third or fourth guest above the base rate. Embassy Suites Downtown charges 304 for three guests and 319 for four, Hampton Inn charges 245, and Hotel Tampa Riverwalk charges 269.
Parking reorders the ladder
Each property publishes its own parking term, and FMEA points guests to the reservation link for it. Embassy Suites Tampa Airport Westshore folds self-parking into its published note. The paid terms run from 10 dollars a day to 55, which puts three nights of parking between 30 and 165 dollars.
Barrymore self-parking is 10 dollars a day. Holiday Inn is 15. Four Points is 17. Residence Inn is 25. Embassy Suites Downtown valet is 31. Courtyard valet is 35, valet only. Hampton Inn self-parking is 41. Home2 Suites self-parking is 41.26. Westin valet is 45, valet only. Marriott Water Street valet is 50 overnight and 30 daily, valet only. Hotel Tampa Riverwalk valet is 50 overnight and 28 daily. Hilton Tampa Downtown is 55 a day, valet only.
Three nights of room and parking at the Barrymore comes to 549 dollars. The same three nights at the Hilton Tampa Downtown comes to 930. The room rate accounts for 246 dollars of that 381 dollar gap and parking accounts for the other 135.
The test to run before conceding
FMEA publishes a self-check for a block that stops serving its rate: "If the price listed on the hotel website after clicking the button below is not the same as the price listed below, the FMEA block for that hotel may be full, and they are showing you full-price rooms instead. Try again in November after all-state results come out."
A quoted figure above the published rung signals that the block link stopped serving the block rate. FMEA reads it as a possibly full block and advises a second attempt after all-state results, released in late October and early November.
Blocks fill fast because directors reserve rooms before auditions, then cancel the surplus once results land. FMEA returns cancelled rooms to the blocks until December 12.
November 7 is the date that bites
The room cancellation deadline is 5 p.m. on November 7, a Saturday. Cancel by then and no fee applies. Cancel later and each room carries a non-refundable deposit equal to one night at the posted rate plus tax, charged to the card holding the reservation.
FMEA asks guests holding surplus rooms to cancel by that deadline and to keep a cancellation confirmation number.
December 14 closes the block
December 14 is the deadline to reserve inside an FMEA block, and unsold rooms return to the hotels that day. A guest paying by check must have the check reach the hotel by the same date.
A maximum of five guest rooms may be reserved per name and credit card, and the card name must match the name on the reservation. A director booking for a large ensemble needs more than one name and card.
FMEA asks guests to stay inside the block and states the reason: access to rehearsal ballrooms depends on room nights booked in the blocks, and a shortfall raises registration rates to cover the space.
The halving claim has no baseline
The FMEA page describes the contracted rates as "much lower than their standard room rates during the same dates" and, in many cases, "less than half their normal rates." No standard rate for the conference dates is published, so the halving claim cannot be tested.
What a Florida group does with the ladder
hotelhaggle publishes its coverage limit on its own site: "A few states (FL, HI, IA, WA) restrict name-your-price bookings under state travel laws." grouprooms.org carries the same five states for group bookings. A Tampa director therefore books through the thirteen FMEA links.
The ladder is the number to hold in that call. Thirteen published rates for the same three nights, running from 173 to 257 dollars, show each property where the block already sits. The block-full test is the second tool: a quoted figure above the published rung means the link stopped serving the block rate.
