The ladder, and the date that closes it

GDC Festival of Gaming 2027 runs March 1 to 5, 2027 at the Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street in San Francisco. Registration is open. The passes and pricing page carries one instruction beside the ladder: register by December 11 at 11:59pm Pacific to lock in the Early Rate. The Super Early Rate closed on Friday, October 9 at 11:59pm Pacific, six days before publication.

Eight rungs publish at that Early Rate. Festival is $549. Game Changer is $1,249. Indie or Start-Up is $299. Festival Hall Only is $175. Business Hall Only is $125. Academic is $299. The 1-Day Career pass is $125 and covers Friday only. A separate GDC Vault subscription is $649.

The lever that moves ten passes

The group discount applies to 10 or more Festival or Game Changer registrations and is 10 percent off the current pass price. Ten Festival passes at $549 come to $5,490. The group price is $4,941, a saving of $549. Ten Game Changer passes at $1,249 come to $12,490, and the group price is $11,241, a saving of $1,249. A mixed group of five Festival and five Game Changer passes prices at $8,990 before the discount and $8,091 after it.

The discount does not apply at checkout by default. The page instructs a buyer to request the Group Registration Form from the GDC Group Registration Team. The registration portal repeats that route with a link back to the group discounts section of the pricing page.

Which passes sit outside the discount

Three passes sit outside it. The Indie Pass, the Start-Up Pass and the Academic Pass each carry the same published sentence: that pass does not qualify for group pricing and does not count toward group purchase minimums. A buyer assembling ten registrations cannot fill three seats with academic registrations and still reach the ten.

Four further rungs appear in no group rule on any page read: Festival Hall Only, Business Hall Only, the 1-Day Career pass and the GDC Vault subscription.

One naming conflict belongs in the ask. The pricing page and the FAQ both say Festival and Game Changer. The registration portal offers 10 percent off for 10 or more All Access, Core, or Summit passes, and those three names sit on no rung of the 2027 ladder.

Two discounts that cannot stack

The FAQ states that the group discount cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions, including the alumni rate. A buyer eligible for both has to choose one. No page publishes arithmetic for the choice.

Building the week from the halls

The pricing page allows three passes to be combined: Business Hall Only, Festival Hall Only and the 1-Day Career pass, each purchased separately. Business Hall Only at $125 plus Festival Hall Only at $175 comes to $300 against a Festival pass at $549. The combination buys the Business Hall Monday to Friday with two guest meeting passes a day, and the Festival Hall Tuesday to Thursday with the Game Developers Choice Awards on the Tuesday and the Independent Games Festival Awards on the Wednesday. It buys no main GDC program sessions, no meeting pods in West Hall, no Developer Concert and no GDC Vault year. Single session passes are not available. A pass purchased or upgraded onsite costs the onsite price, so waiting past December 11 is a priced decision.

February 5 is the change and cancel wall

The FAQ states that requests for registration, cancellations, substitutions, upgrades and downgrades must be received on or before February 5, 2027. Cancellations and downgrades on a pass carry a $250 cancellation fee. The lower fee is $75, and it applies to Festival Hall Only, Business Hall Only and the 1-Day Career pass. Refunds are not available after that date for a downgrade or a cancellation. No-show refunds are not available at all, and the cancellation fee itself is non-refundable. A downgrade is defined as a move from Game Changer to any lower rung, or from Festival to Festival Hall Only, Business Hall Only, the 1-Day Career pass or a GDC Vault purchase. Passes cannot be transferred to GDC 2028.

That published definition matters to a group. A ten-pass Game Changer order that shrinks to nine Festival passes on February 6 becomes a set of cancellations and downgrades past the wall.

The room side has no published rate yet

GDC works with onPeak as its official hotel partner. The plan your trip page states that onPeak has secured discounted rates on hotels near the event. A party requiring 12 or more rooms needs a sub block agreement, routed to GDC@onpeaksupport.com or (888) 998-2784. The FAQ answers the booking question with the line that hotel blocks will open for GDC 2027 soon.

That is the state of the room market across the organiser pages. No property list, no nightly rate, no block window and no cut-off date is published. The organiser warns that companies contacting attendees about hotel reservations are not affiliated with GDC and are not authorized to book on its behalf. The venue has no on-site parking.

The order of operations

Lock the pass count before December 11 at 11:59pm Pacific to hold the Early Rate, and fix the Festival and Game Changer split before that date, because only those two rungs carry the group price. Confirm in writing that the ten-registration minimum can be met across a split order. Open the sub block conversation with onPeak before February 5, because 12 rooms is the published threshold and no rate is posted to compare it against. Put the alumni rate against the group discount in writing before choosing.
