AWWA stages WaterSmart Innovations 2026 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Portland, from Wednesday, October 21 to Friday, October 23, 2026. The convention center lists the event in Halls A-A1 as a private event that requires registration.
The block has closed and rooms remain
The AWWA hotel and travel section states the position in one line: "Although the official room block deadline has passed, rooms are still available at the DoubleTree by Hilton Portland. Book your room today!" The page prints no cutoff date.
The DoubleTree sits a half-mile from the convention center. AWWA describes the distance as about a 5-10 minute walk through the Lloyd District. That is the distance the organiser publishes for the one property it names.
Read the booking link before you click it
The "Book Your Hotel Room" control on the AWWA page points at a Hilton reservation URL. The query string carries ctyhocn RLLC-DT, groupCode CDTWSI, arrivalDate 2026-10-20, departureDate 2026-10-24, and one adult. That is four room nights against a three-day conference.
A Tuesday arrival places the guest in Portland for the 7 a.m. Wednesday start. A Saturday departure holds the room through the Friday close at 4:30 p.m.
The link published no nightly rate, and it returned an error page on a direct load during this check. Ask the property for a written figure.
The organiser published a warning, and it is usable
AWWA prints this line on the same page: "Alert: AWWA is aware of multiple unauthorized organizations contacting attendees to solicit hotel rooms. For your protection, reserve hotel accommodations using only the link provided by AWWA."
Ask the property to confirm in writing that the reservation sits on the WSI block or on the property inventory, and that the confirmation carries the guest name, the arrival and departure dates, the nightly rate and the cancellation term.
Price the ask against the published fees
The registration page publishes the full ladder. Full conference runs $595 for members and $695 for non-members on or before September 21 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and $695 and $795 from September 22. Speaker rates run $495 to $695. Exhibits Only runs $70 for a member on the early rate and $100 in every later column. Pre-conference workshops and facility tours run $90 to $180 each. Spouse and guest registration holds one figure across all four columns: $65.
The early-bird deadline has passed. A registration made today lands in the regular column: $695 for a member and $795 for a non-member on a full conference pass, and $100 on an exhibits-only pass.
Put the nightly rate beside that ladder in the request. Ask for the rate with taxes and fees itemised, and ask for the cancellation term in writing.
The two policy pages print different cancellation addresses. The rates section prints services@awwa.org and the conference policy section prints service@awwa.org. Send to the address in the rates section, and ask for the refund term in writing. The published terms allow a written cancellation on or before the early-bird deadline with a 25 percent administrative fee, and no refund after it, with substitute registrants welcome.
What the venue publishes about the stay
The Oregon Convention Center runs an underground garage with 800 spaces. The standard daily entry rate is $15 for up to 18 hours, with no in and out privileges. During events the garage charges a dynamic rate of $15 to $25. Overnight parking is prohibited. The garage opens at 6 a.m., and it can reach capacity.
Wednesday sessions start at 7 a.m. and the garage opens an hour earlier. A guest who drives and does not book a room has no overnight option in the garage. Put the property parking charge in the same request as the room rate, then compare the two against the $15 to $25 venue garage.
AWWA publishes one transit term for the ask. WSI attendees staying at the DoubleTree Portland receive complimentary MAX Light Rail passes for the trip between the hotel and the convention center, and the pass works on the Red Line to Portland International Airport at no cost. The ride runs about 5 minutes over 1 to 2 stops. Ask the property to confirm the pass at check-in as part of the written confirmation.
The request
Send one request for four nights, Tuesday October 20 through Saturday October 24, and a second for two nights, Wednesday October 21 through Friday October 23. Compare the two on total rather than on the nightly display. Then add the Friday night as a third figure, because the closing session runs to 4:30 p.m.
Put four items in the request. Ask for the nightly rate with taxes and fees itemised. Ask for the cancellation term and the deadline in writing. Ask the conference rate to hold on any additional night. Ask for confirmation of the complimentary MAX pass and the parking charge at the property.
Portland sits outside the four states on the hotelhaggle restriction list, so the name-your-price request applies to this stay. The brand publishes a 24 to 72 hour response time, a 15 to 40 percent saving range against published rates, free submission, and no obligation to accept a counter.
Where the two date lines differ
The Oregon Convention Center event page heads the run as October 20 to 22, then lists Wednesday October 21, Thursday October 22 and Friday October 23 with per-day hours. AWWA prints October 21-23, 2026, Wednesday through Friday. The AWWA dates and the convention center day lines agree, and this piece uses October 21-23.
Neither the conference page nor the venue page publishes a nightly hotel rate or an attendance figure.
