The ladder is already on the record
The Coastal Athletic Association published single-session prices for the 2026 championships in a release dated February 20, 2026. Men's first-round tickets started at $5. Second-round sessions sold for $12. Quarterfinal seats, the ones carrying the top four seeds, cost $24. The women's championship ran a parallel ladder at $5, $9 and $10. The release closes with one line that matters to a budget: "Additional ticket fees will apply."
The association published those prices. A buyer negotiating rooms can carry them into the rate conversation.
Ten days at one address
The 2027 championships run March 5 through March 14 at CareFirst Arena, 1100 Oak Drive SE in Congress Heights. The men play March 5 to 9. The women play March 10 to 14. Friday opens the men's bracket and Sunday closes the women's. The building seats 4,200, and each final sends a champion to the NCAA tournament with an automatic bid.
Ten calendar days at one address gives the buyer a single contract shape. Nine nights cover the whole run on a March 5 arrival and a March 14 departure. A tenth night enters when the guest arrives March 4, the Thursday before the first session, or stays through March 15.
What the published rounds total
Price one session in each published round. The men's side comes to $41. The women's side comes to $24. A buyer holding both ladders pays $65 for the ten days.
The release prices three rounds on each side. Semifinal and final sessions carry no figure in it, so the $65 covers the first round, the second round and the quarterfinals. A buyer who wants the semifinals and the final adds two more sessions per championship with no published price to budget against.
The room against the ceiling
The federal lodging ceiling for Washington in March 2027 is $295 a night. That figure comes from the General Services Administration per diem file for the District. Nine nights at the ceiling total $2,655 before tax.
The District applies a 15.95% rate to charges for rooms furnished to a transient. The Office of the Chief Financial Officer extends that rate through September 30, 2027, which covers the whole tournament window. Tax on nine nights at the ceiling adds $423.47. The bill reads $3,078.47. Ten nights read $3,420.53, with $470.53 of it tax.
One night buys fourteen quarterfinal seats
A single post-tax night at the ceiling is $342.05. That is fourteen quarterfinal seats at $24, or sixty-eight first-round seats at $5.
On the full stay the ratio is small. A buyer's published-round ticket bill on both championships, $65, equals 2.1% of the nine-night room bill at the ceiling. The room carries the commitment across all nine nights.
The timing gap
The 2026 ladder landed on February 20, 2026, fourteen days before the March 6 first round. The association has published no ladder for 2027. The first round sits 132 days from today, on March 5.
A buyer contracting nine nights in the autumn sets a rate before the association publishes the number that prices the event. The property sets a rate against a tournament whose session value is unknown at signature and known at arrival.
What to request in writing
Nine consecutive nights on one contract, March 5 to March 14. Ask for a flat nightly rate at or below $295 before tax, held across all nine nights and across the tenth night if the guest adds March 4. Ask for the tax rate printed on the confirmation.
Ask for the parking price. CareFirst Arena publishes limited paid on-site parking in the Green Lot at Malcolm X Avenue and 8th Street SE at $20 a car on event day, and a garage behind the arena priced by event. A group arriving by car needs both numbers before signature, because the garage figure moves with the event. On-street parking on the St. Elizabeths campus runs first-come, first-served.
Ask where the property sits on the Green Line. Congress Heights station is a three-minute walk from the arena, and Metro runs the Green Line through it. A guest who rides the train carries only the fare into the budget.
Set the exit on the ladder date
Ask for a cancellation window that closes after the association prices the 2027 sessions. The 2026 pattern puts that release two weeks before the first round, which lands after most group contracts are signed. A free-cancel window through mid-February lands after the association prices the 2027 sessions.
Two deadlines on one page also give the buyer a second ask. Offer the property a firm rooming list by the week the ticket ladder prints, in exchange for the flat rate.
Run the request
hotelhaggle sends one request out to hotels in the destination and returns their rates, terms and fees on one dashboard. The District of Columbia is not on the seller-of-travel restricted list, which names Florida, Hawaii, Iowa and Washington, so a DC request routes through the platform. Load the nine nights, the $295 ceiling, the parking question and the cancellation window into the request. The ladder supplies the argument for the rate.
